DRS for Windows, version 6.0, implements the nutrient system defined in the National Research Council Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle, Seventh Revised Edition, 2001.
The version 6.0, DRS for Windows implementation builds on 20 years of experience in providing dairy ration and feeding program software. Users will be pleased to see how intuitively they can use DRS to plan cost effect and nutritionally sound dairy feeding programs. |

Nutrition |
|---|
DRS for Windows 6.0 provides a range of nutrition tools that will assure that you are always up-to-date with the latest trends and requirements of the dairy nutrition world. DRS for Windows provides three separate nutrient systems. These are all easily configured to your specific requirements.
For example, the 2001 NRC Nutrient Requirements for Dairy Cattle is implemented. Equations are in place to allow discounting energy levels based on lactation state; to provide analyses of essential amino acid flows; to examine the affect of RUP and RDP on milk production; and to evaluate absorbed mineral balance. You can use these equations with your personally designed nutrient profiles.
DRS for Windows provides the capability to plan beef rations using the Net Energy system as presented in the 1984 NRC Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle.
Finally, do you have the need for a sheep or swine ration? DRS for Windows allows you to design custom nutrient profiles based on either a dry matter or an as fed moisture basis.
Each nutrient profile system just mentioned allows you use up to 75 nutrient fields. 58 of these are specifically associated with the NRC 2001 system; the remainder may be defined as you wish. (Back)

Clients |
|---|
A DRS for Windows client represents what might be considered a single dairy operation. The professional version allows over 8,000 such clients. The dairyman version allows 4 clients. Each client is assigned a private ingredient and stored ration library. DRS for Windows allows you to send, or export, a client data file to another DRS for Windows user. (Back)

Ingredient Library |
|---|
DRS for Windows allows you to develop a standard feed library of over 8,000 ingredients. These ingredients can be considered as a "book value" library to be shared equally among all DRS for Windows clients. You can copy individual feeds from the standard library into client feed libraries. This feature provides an easy means of managing the many distinct variations of feeds such as farm raised forages and other personal feed products. A clients feed library will store up to 100 private ingredients, blends, and rations. DRS for Windows ingredients are stored in a convenient, easily accessible manner. All ingredients are stored on indexed pages.
Each ingredient provides data storage capacity for information such as feed name, price, and dry matter level. In addition each feed stores information on 75 separate nutrient fields.
DRS for Windows provides a start-up standard ingredient library of over 120 common feeds. You may add new feeds to the library or delete feeds. You may make blends of other ingredients and store them in either the standard or client feed libraries.
DRS for Windows provides the capability export and import the standard feed library. This feature is of special significance to organizations wishing to maintain standardized nutrient levels and pricing within their group of DRS users.
DRS for Windows supports the capability to import feed and forage laboratory test result reports into client feed libraries. These reports must be provide in a text file format. A sample import file is provided courtesy of Cumberland Valley Analytical Services, Inc. (Back)

Ration Formulations |
|---|
DRS for Windows rations support up to 30 ingredient selections. Rations may be calculated using either least cost or fixed ingredient level calculation methods.
Formulated ration results are presented on a series of screens displaying such information as feed and nutrient levels. Statistics about ration costs and various nutrient ratios and interrelationships are shown. Opportunity costs for competitive feed sources may be examined when least cost calculations are performed.
Ration formulations may be stored and recalled for later use. (Back)
